On the same day that the summer of 2016 begins, the press gives the news about the increase of flights that the Alicante-Elche International Airport will receive this year. The Mediterranean climate, sunshine present in the area more than 300 days per year, as well as excellent tourist and residential offers of the Costa Blanca are the main reasons leading to the airport in the Costa Blanca to be one of the most important in Spain.
AENA estimates to receive in the Alicante-Elche Airport about 12 million users in 2016. This number represents an increase of 1.5 million users over the previous year.
Other reasons that place Spain, and specifically Costa Blanca, as the main tourist destination is the closing of the Tunisian tourist market and the problems in Turkey. This means that for example English and Germans change their holiday destination to Costa Blanca.
According to the " Results report for the first quarter of 2016" eight major Spanish airports grew a 17.4% during the first three months. Of these highlights the growth in Alicante-Elche (22.1%), Malaga-Costa del Sol (18.2%), Valencia (16.7%) and Seville (13.4%).
In addition, it must take into account that the International Airport of Alicante-Elche has recently added new international routes with flights to Doncaster (UK), Dusseldorf (Germany), Norwich (UK), Rome (Italy), Sofia (Republic of Bulgaria), Vienna (Austria), Zurich (Switzerland).
